Grandfather Tusk & Little Shoat
Marie was born and raised in the northeast Arkansas town of Walnut Ridge. She is one of nine siblings, seven of whom attended the University of Arkansas.
When the nieces and nephews started coming along, she tried to find children's books about the school or the Razorbacks, but without success.
She then decided to write my own story for them.
Her parents and most of her siblings were avid readers and kept their local hometown library busy. Marie spent 22 years as a school librarian in grades K–12, for a total of 36 years combined in libraries and education. She was awarded membership in Who's Who Among American Teachers and was the sponsor of award-winning youth groups in Mississippi (Peer Support Group), and Arkansas (Photography and Young Entrepreneurs competitions). In addition, she and her twin sister also started a book club over 25 years ago that is still going strong.
Marie has lived in five other states (Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada), and cities from New Orleans to Las Vegas, but Arkansas called her home. Marie is now retired and lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
A born nature and animal lover, now retired, Marie has worked as a wildlife volunteer with white lions in South Africa, elephants in rural Thailand, and primates in South Africa.
You can take the librarian out of the library, but you can't take their love of sharing books away. So, Marie recently added a Little Free Library in front of my house.
